New Babbage Reception
Arrival space · Integrated storage · Workplace identity
The reception at Cloud Imperium Games’ Manchester headquarters translates the New Babbage aesthetic from the Star Citizen universe into a permanent, operational front-of-house interior.
-
New Babbage is a key landing zone within Star Citizen, defined by clean lines, controlled lighting and refined materiality.
The brief was to bring that atmosphere into the studio entrance — not as a themed set piece, but as a working reception used daily by staff and visitors.
-
In-game references and production artwork informed the visual direction, but the space had to function first.
The reception occupies an area originally designed as a plant and services zone. Existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure had to remain in place, so the design developed around it, with storage, equipment and panel systems built into the space from the outset.
Every element was incorporated into the structure itself, so the space reads as intentional rather than decorative.
-
The completed space delivers on the ambition of the original concept, with hundreds of people encountering the world of Star Citizen each day as they enter the studio.
Extensive concealed storage and integrated facilities allow the reception team to operate efficiently, while maintaining the clean, controlled aesthetic expected of a front-of-house environment.
